We offer each student an opportunity to learn in a quiet, friendly, structured school atmosphere.
The Brentwood faculty is a professional, experienced, much-loved group eager to work with your child. We come to know each student as a developing person.
Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies are presented to each student at an appropriate level by our expert teaching teams which consist of lead teachers, assistant teachers, and specialized support teachers. Art, Music, Spanish, Technology, Science Lab, Physical Education, and Library round out the curriculum.
Extended care (Playgroup) is quality before and after school care available from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm * Use as needed and pay monthly.
*If you will be using 7:30 am to 5:30 pm every day, there is an all-day-every-day discounted rate available and is contracted for the school year.
Our Preschool (3 year olds) and Pre-Kindergarten (4 year old) students enjoy a focused curriculum of activities designed to promote academic foundations and positive social interaction. Nurturing natural curiosity is a valued goal.

Preschool

This is the year that social learning blossoms. Children explore negotiating, cooperating, goal setting and task completion all in the context of a rich mix of fundamentals including reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The class is bright, playful, and full of modern learning centers. Learning is often tactile with arts and crafts offering endless learning opportunities. In addition to the two classroom teachers, specialists join our preschool threes for Physical Education, Music, and Spanish classes.

This culminating preschool experience prepares the child for a lifetime love of learning by emphasizing self-motivation, confidence, and personal organization. Numbers and letters become real and children either begin to read and compute or practice every day for when that bridge will be crossed. Art and music are everywhere with a more sophisticated approach. In addition to the two classroom teachers, specialists join our Pre-K fours for Physical Education, Music, Library, and Spanish classes.

Lower Elementary
Kindergarteners through second graders continue to learn at a pace that fits their learning style. Traditional materials are enhanced with field trips, project show-cases, class visitors, plays, mentor programs, and family celebrations.

Kindergarten is a benchmark experience in a child's educational life. It connects a student's pre-school foundation-building experiences to the more paper/pencil skill-based elementary years. At Brentwood, Kindergarten is still social and playful, but we will add daily, small group, individually paced reading and math sessions to your child's day. Specialists continue classes in Physical Education, Music, Library and Spanish, and beginning in Kindergarten we add Technology and Science Lab classes to the curriculum.

Moving from centers to desks and chairs give first graders a grown-up feeling and add to their sense of organization. Now we start the journey of honing reading, writing, and math skills with daily, small group lessons. Children are more verbal and expand their confidence with more oral presentations and class discussions. This is a lively, fun-loving year and, oh yes, we lose our front teeth. In addition to classroom teachers, specialists teach Technology, Science Lab, Spanish, Music, Physical Education, Library Skills, and Art.

This year completes the early elementary years so we are careful to consolidate the skills necessary for later success. Reading and writing become more fluent, and the more challenging assignments lead to a more confident student identity. Socially, second graders begin that long process of expecting more out of having friends and being a friend. No school setting offers more caring, positive social guidance than Brentwood where kindness, respect, and tolerance are daily by-words. In addition to classroom teachers, specialists teach Technology, Science Lab, Spanish, Music, Physical Education, Library Skills, and Art.

Upper Elementary
Third-Fifth Grade
The upper grades' curriculum strongly consolidates academic skills and enhances personal organization and study skills in preparation for middle school. Students love the change to literature-based reading and writing programs where skill work is derived from award-winning children's literature. Upper-grade students take a more responsible role in school life including younger student mentor programs, more sophisticated field trips, and Safety Patrol responsibilities. In addition to classroom teachers, specialists teach Technology, Science Lab, Spanish, Music, Physical Education, Library Skills, and Art. Brentwood students go on to be successful in all middle schools in the county, both public and private and have a high rate of acceptance to the "by invitation" public magnet programs.
